PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The following objectives have been established for the Phlebotomy/EKG Technician program of FMTI.

1. Comprehend, apply and evaluate clinical information relevant to his/her role as a Phlebotomy/EKG Technician (evaluated by comprehensive course exam and state exam by employer's survey).

2. Demonstrate technical proficiency in all skills necessary to fulfill the role of Phlebotomy/EKG Technician evaluated by final practical exam, clinical and field internship evaluations).

4. To assist the graduate Phlebotomy/EKG Technician in the recognition of his/her need for continuing education.

PROGRAM HOURS

See class schedule for dates, topics and exam dates. Classes are held Monday and Wednesdays from 6:00pm until 9:00pm. Clinical and field internship hours will be scheduled by the student according to availability of hours in the hospital setting and designated ambulance agencies.

PROGRAM TUITION AND BOOK FEES

Tuition for the Phlebotomy/EKG Technician program varies from school to school. For the 200 hour program the registration fee must accompany the application to the school. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

The student must complete the following to be considered for the graduation. These requirements must be completed prior to taking the final exam

1. Complete all required class, lab and clinical hours.

2. Pass each module exam with a minimum of 70%

3. Pass the midterm and final exam with a minimum of 70%

4. Maintain an overall course average of 70%.

5. Aids and CPR completion

6. Demonstrate competencies in required critical tasks, as outlined in skills lab, clinical area and field internships.

PHLEBOTOMY/EKG TECHNICIAN PROGRAM COURSE CURRICULUM

In the 80 hour of the classroom portion of the program the student will utilize the current course textbook as well as the workbook to learn and demonstrate skills in pre-hospital patient care. The hours are broken down to the following subjects:

2 hours - Introduction to Phlebotomy and EKG Technician

8 hours - Anatomy and Physiology/Medical Terminology

10 hours - Florida Aids Education and CPR

2 hours - Laboratory Mathematics

1 hours - Laboratory Safety

2 hours - Phlebotomy Equipment

29 hours - Blood Collections Techniques

2 hours - Quality Control

2 hours - Basic Laboratory Values

2 hours - Urine and Body Fluids

2 hours - ECG Equipment and Techniques

18 hours - Basic ECG interpretation skills

EXTERNSHIP

All students are required to complete 120 hours hospital clinical. Phlebotomy/EKG Technician students will complete their externship at a local facility with a qualified preceptor
